As per the Government’s advisory on managing human resources to scale up capacity of medical professionals in managing COVID patients, medical students can now be deployed to assist in COVID management. To bridge on-field experience for this cadre, AAA HealthCare will train medical professionals in critical skills focusing on COVID-related intensive care settings to mount an effective response to the pandemic.One-day intensive training workshops including management of COVID patients in critical conditions (ventilator, HFOC, IPC, clinical management) for about 4200 nurses and 700 doctors are proposed. This capacity building of healthcare professionals is designed to improve clinical management of moderate to severe patients and reduce COVID mortalities, optimize utilization of precious medical resources like oxygen & medicines and eventually create an additional cadre of trained medical staff for the long term.

The 4-hour training program will be conducted online or onsite (given the Covid restrictions) which will include the training module (2 hrs theory & 2 hrs practical) and an assessment. The certification partner is the Electronic Sector Skills Council of India (since ventilators fall under the category of medical equipment), a certificate will be issued to the trained candidates.

Over the next one year, support secured from USAID’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund will enable AAA HealthCare to implement these one-day training workshops, strengthening India’s overall healthcare ecosystem. Upon successful completion of the training modules, the program will extend its reach to more geographies, especially within healthcare centres which operate under low-resource settings.

With SAMRIDH’s support, AWL will be expanding their ambient and cold storage supply chain network for enhancing its distribution capabilities to more than 350+ location for ambient temperature cargo and around 50 locations for temperature-controlled cargo. This objective is to reduce logistics cost – from the current supply chain mark-up of 18-20 % down to 10-12% through reduced wastage of critical medicines and vaccines by distribution of temperature-controlled cargo through AWL’s supply chain network. AWL is expanding its temperature-controlled supply chain network to more than 8 locations and ambient cargo supply chain network to 70 locations. The aim and objective are to expand in the hilly, tribal areas of the seven states in northeast India which have low penetration of logistic services – Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. Through its program, CDOT aims to promote a Culture of Health in Bihar and Jharkhand, the lowest-ranking states when it comes to household health insurance coverage (NHFS-4).To this end, they will be training 450 community health workers to enroll people in health insurance, improve health seeking behavior, make the community more aware of COVID-19 symptoms, provide information on prevention and treatment, and increase vaccine uptake, thereby reducing the burden on healthcare facilities.

With SAMRIDH’s support, CDOT will reach 450,000 people during the intervention period. A long-term economic and health impact is estimated for the individuals counseled and their families. SAMRIDH’s support will enable CDOT to scale up beneficiary outreach and vaccine administration.

ChildFund, a child development organization, has been working with underprivileged children, youth, and families from the most remote, extremely backward, and hard-to-reach areas in India, since 1951, with a vision to build ‘an India where children lead a dignified life and achieve their full potential’.

ChildFund India works in the rural belts of the country, now slowly expanding its focus to urban poverty where child protection issues and violence against children are prevalent. Its programs provide comprehensive support to children from their conception until they reach 24 years of age by integrating health, nutrition, sanitation, gender equality, disability, education, skill training, livelihoods, child protection, climate change and humanitarian relief work. ChildFund believes in creating a supportive ecosystem to ensure children have a thriving childhood.

With SAMRIDH’s support, ChildFund aims to reach 35 lakh+ beneficiaries from 7,554 villages spread over five locations – Bastar, Udaipur, Durgapur, East Singhbhum, and Ranchi – through health systems strengthening support offering for public and private health facilities and establishing a sustainable network care model to ensure improved access to quality and affordable healthcare services.

The entity will engage in expanding the outreach to health camps and teleconsultation services through 15 private hospitals, make teleconsultation accessible for enhanced COVID-19 care, provide infrastructural support to improve primary and community health centers, include child-friendly facilities in over 7,500 villages, and ensure advocacy and review at district and state levels to strengthen primary healthcare. The ultimate goal of the project is to create “Covid free villages” taking holistic approach of dealing with covid-19, which starts with risk reduction followed by mitigation through improving access to health services, empowerment of community, strengthening health system and community structures and processes through innovative approaches. The project is being implemented in coordination with Ministry of Health, ChildFund India being member of COVID Task force at the district and state level. By end of the project, all targeted Health Centres/Covid care centres in ChildFund India’s operational areas will have access to medical supply for adults and children resulting in saving lives of thousands of Covid -19 positive people including children between the age of 2 -18 years. The project will develop management protocols for health care staff, frontline workers would be trained on managing adults and children with covid, they will also be trained to recognize from non-verbal communication as children may be non-verbal and will not be able to describe their illness.

The SMs will work towards increasing awareness on COVID-19 appropriate behavior, vaccinationand symptoms. SMs would also support the ASHA network by going beyond maternal and child health and assess general health needs in the population that they serve and increase health-seeking behaviour. In collaboration with the local public health authority, the Swastha Mitra will facilitate testing, tracking, isolationand treatment of patients as per the protocol. GNRC will alsodouble their fleet of rented ambulances– from their existing 40 units by another 40 – to facilitate transportation in various remote and under-served areas of Assam. Complemented with provision of transportation and discounted care services at the hospital, the program will deliver integrated healthcare to large populations that would otherwise remain untouched.

Their respiratory support device, Saans, the world’s first infrastructure-independent, easy-to-use, portable, neonatal/pediatric CPAP + HFNC system, provides lifesaving breathing support to children across all hospital settings, including low-resource centers, as well as during transport.

The Saans device features an in-built compressor and blender, battery backup for up to 4-6 hours, and compatibility with all standard oxygen sources and patient interfaces, making it a versatile breathing support system for children.

With support from SAMRIDH, InnAccel and the Center for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) have partnered to augment neonatal/pediatric healthcare in Assam. Through this project, 307 Saans devices with consumables will be deployed across all districts of the State. The deployment will cover NICUs and PICUs in Medical Colleges and District Hospitals, as well as District ambulances. It will universalize infant access to breathing support to reduce infant mortality. Furthermore, the project will strengthen the public healthcare system to better handle newborn and pediatric care for subsequent COVID-19 surges. In addition, SAMRIDH is also supporting InnAccel in building a dedicated commercial and support team to drive the adoption of Saans across India. In the near term, this team would focus on scaling for COVID-19 support, which will bridge the gap in access to pediatric and neonatal breathing support.

The entity will engage in expanding the outreach to health camps and teleconsultation services through 15 private hospitals, make teleconsultation accessible for enhanced COVID-19 care, provide infrastructural support to improve primary and community health centers, include child-friendly facilities in over 7,500 villages, and ensure advocacy and review at district and state levels to strengthen primary healthcare. The ultimate goal of the project is to create “Covid free villages” taking holistic approach of dealing with covid-19, which starts with risk reduction followed by mitigation through improving access to health services, empowerment of community, strengthening health system and community structures and processes through innovative approaches. It will universalize infant access to breathing support to reduce infant mortality. Furthermore, the project will strengthen the public healthcare system to better handle newborn and pediatric care for subsequent COVID-19 surges. In addition, SAMRIDH is also supporting InnAccel in building a dedicated commercial and support team to drive the adoption of Saans across India. In the near term, this team would focus on scaling for COVID-19 support, which will bridge the gap in access to pediatric and neonatal breathing support.

towards building a seamless PAN India supply chain network of ambient and temperature-controlled warehouses to deliver COVID-19 equipment like oxygen cylinders, concentrators, medicines, and vaccines.

With SAMRIDH’s support, AWL will be expanding their ambient and cold storage supply chain network for enhancing its distribution capabilities to more than 350+ location for ambient temperature cargo and around 50 locations for temperature-controlled cargo. This objective is to reduce logistics cost – from the current supply chain mark-up of 18-20 % down to 10-12% through reduced wastage of critical medicines and vaccines by distribution of temperature-controlled cargo through AWL’s supply chain network. AWL is expanding its temperature-controlled supply chain network to more than 8 locations and ambient cargo supply chain network to 70 locations. The aim and objective are to expand in the hilly, tribal areas of the seven states in northeast India which have low penetration of logistic services – Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. The program estimates to reach 60 million people through its services.

precise temperature between 2-8°C, 15-25°C and frozen (- 20°C) for up to five days. These containers are backed by Pluss’ proprietary technology that uses PCMs – advanced thermal energy storage materials that can store and release large amount of energy keeping the temperature constant without any external power supply. These solutions are used by pharma, diagnostics and biotech companies to pack and transport temperature sensitive drugs, vaccines, test kits, clinical trial samples and other heat labile products.

With support from SAMRIDH, Pluss will double the capacity of Celsure® boxes from 3,000 boxes per month to 6,000 boxes per month and establish local warehousing and PCM freezing facility at Hyderabad, Telangana to cater to the various vaccine manufacturers (Bharat Biotech, DRL, Biological E). This will help pharma and biotech companies – involved in the manufacturing and distribution of COVID-19 test kits, drugs and vaccines – in making timely deliveries. This intervention will ultimately benefit the population residing in underserved regions that face formidable challenges in cold-chain management.

SN Gene Lab is a NABL-accredited cytogenetic and molecular diagnostic laboratory. It is strengthening laboratory genomic sequencing capacity through the adoption of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology that provides an effective solution to identify new coronavirus strains and other novel pathogens, support in tracking the transmission routes of the virus globally, detect mutations quickly.

These capabilities can support in preventing the spread of new strain types, identifying viral mutations that can avoid detection by established molecular diagnostic assays, and identifying viral mutations that can affect vaccine potency and in screening targets for possible COVID-19 therapeutics. They can also help in identifying and characterizing respiratory co-infections and antimicrobial resistance.

With SAMRIDH’s support, SN Gene Lab is setting up a facility in Surat, Gujarat, that can be used for pathogen tests, such as the search for multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR), HIV genotyping, respiratory pathogens, targeted therapeutics, etc. thus, diversifying the use of the NGS.
